Starting this winter, the Greater Moncton Wildflower Seed Library will host native seed giveaways. Donation follows the principle of reciprocity outlined in our guidelines. It is highly encouraged, but not mandatory.
In these events, the seeds donated to the library will be given out to the public. In the meantime, we accept donations of native plants originally found in any of the Maritime provinces
We accept Maritime-native, cultivar-free seeds from 2024, from people within driving distance of the Greater Moncton area*
*If you are far, instead of mailing to us, please consider donating within your community.
Donation procedure
- Refer to our Ethical Harvesting policy for details on where and when to harvest.
- Ensure your plant is free of cultivars (cultivated varieties). See more information here on “nativars”. We only accept seeds of “straight-species” native plants, as per our Genetic Diversity Policy.
- Harvest the seed at the correct time. See this spreadsheet from Ottawa Wildflower Seed Library, that has the instructions on how and when to harvest.
- Fill out the form for donations to the seed library. All donations require a filled form alongside it.
- Donate the seed heads, unprocessed or processed seeds to the Seed Library by contacting sam(at)wildflowerseeds.org. We will pack the seeds during our events this coming fall.
